MANCHESTER, NH – Defenseman Richard Petiot snapped in his third of the season to lift the Manchester Monarchs past the Hartford Wolf Pack, 3-2 in overtime at the Verizon Wireless Arena in front of a crowd of 6,914 on Friday night.
Manchester (15-3-0-3, 33 points) is in sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division. Hartford (10-6-2-3, 25 points) is in third place in the Atlantic Division.
Right wing Ryan Murphy collected his second of the year with a shorthanded goal at 16:45 of the first period. Defenseman Marty Wilford sent a slap shot in on Wolf Pack’s goaltender Robert Gherson from the top of the left face-off circle. Gherson made a glove save but the puck slipped through the glove’s netting and onto open ice in the crease. Murphy was on the doorstep to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead. Center Connor James also assisted on the first goal of the game.
Hartford evened the score at 1-1 at 14:12 of the second period with center Jarkko Immonen’s eighth of the season. Right wing Craig Weller won the face-off, to the left of Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser, over to left wing Chad Wiseman who then fed a pass to Immonen in the slot for the one-timer.
Playing the standard four-on-four hockey in overtime, Petiot collected a perfect pass from right wing Konstantin Pushkarev and after a brief pause, snapped a shot past Gherson for the Monarchs fifth overtime win. James earned his second assist of the night on the game-winning goal.
Hauser (10-2-2) earned his fourth straight win stopping 32 shots. Gherson (3-1-1) also stopped 32 shots for his first loss of the season.
Manchester went 0-for-7 on the power play. Hartford was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
The Springfield Falcons travel to Manchester to face the Monarchs on Saturday, December 3 at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:35 p.m. The Cumberland County Civic Center and the Portland Pirates are on the Monarchs schedule for Sunday, December 4 at 4:05 p.m.
