MANCHESTER, NH – Rookies Dany Roussin, Jeff Tambellini and Brendan Bernakevitch scored their first professional goals in the Manchester Monarchs 5-1 victory over the 2005 Calder Cup champion Philadelphia Phantoms in front of a crowd of 8,685 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night.

The Monarchs (3-2-0-1, 7 points) are tied for fifth place in the Atlantic Division. The Phantoms (4-4-0-0, 8 points) are seated in third place in the East Division.

Left wing Roussin found the back of the net while the Monarchs were on the power play at 8:57 of the first period. Defensemen Denis Grebeshkov and Brad Fast shared possession of the puck at the blue line before Grebeshkov shot a bullet toward Phantoms rookie goaltender Rejean Beauchemin. Roussin lifted the rebound over Beauchemin’s right pad for the tally.

Monarchs left wing Tambellini skated down the right side and fired a shot past Beauchemin that ricocheted off the right goal post. Right wing Brad Smyth was on the doorstep for the rebound and his first goal of the season at 16:05 of the first period. Left wing Jeff Giuliano also assisted on the even strength goal to extend his scoring streak to three games (two goals and one assist for three points).

Phantoms left wing Tony Voce split the Monarchs lead in half with a shorthanded goal at 15:49 of the second period. Voce stole the puck at center ice and roofed it over Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser’s right shoulder for his fourth of the year. Center R.J. Umberger and defenseman Wade Skolney assisted on Philadelphia’s lone goal.

Tambellini connected with the back of the net at 3:44 of the third period. The left winger skated down the right side and scored just inside the left post. Smyth assisted on the play for his second point of the evening.

Rookie forward Bernakevitch finished off the Monarchs scoring with goals at 5:15 and 16:57 of the third period. The Harvard grad stole the puck away from the Phantoms defense at the right face-off circle and sneaked it past Beauchemin on the short side for his first goal. Right wings Ryan Murphy and Lauri Tukonen assisted on the play.

Smyth and defenseman Richard Petiot assisted on Bernakevitch’s second goal. Smyth slid the pass to Bernakevitch and the rookie forward shot a one-timer past Beauchemin.
