SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Manchester Monarchs ran their season-opening winning streak to six games (6-0-0-0) with a 4-2 win over the Springfield Falcons at the Springfield Civic Center on Saturday afternoon in front of 2,444 fans.

Center Yanick Lehoux (1-0=1), left wing Noah Clarke (1-1=2), left wing Jeff Giuliano (1-0=1) and right wing Brad Smyth (1-2=3) each collected goals in the win. Center Michael Cammalleri (0-3=3) chipped in with three assists and goaltender Adam Hauser sealed the victory, his third of the season, with 26 saves.

The loss extended the Falcons winless streak to seven games (0-5-1-1).

Lehoux and Clarke each struck for first period goals. Lehoux hammered a rebound by goaltender Brian Eklund (31 shots, 27 saves) just 2:52 into the opening period to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead. Assisting on Lehoux’s team-leading eighth goal of the season were Smyth and Cammalleri. The power play goal was the Monarchs league-leading 12th this season.

Clarke pushed the Monarchs lead to 2-0 with his second goal of the campaign, collected at 9:47 with assists from Cammalleri and Smyth.

The Falcons scored their only goal of the period just 26 seconds later as center Ryan Craig slipped his third goal of the season by Hauser at 10:13. Forward Craig Darby and right wing Shane Willis assisted on the goal, the first allowed by the Monarchs to an opponent in the opening period of a game this season.

Including Saturday’s contest, the Monarchs have outscored their opponents 11-1 in the first period this season.

The Monarchs stretched their lead to 4-1 with second period goals from Giuliano and Smyth. Giuliano scored his second goal of the season short-handed at 3:50. Right wing Dan Welch and defenseman Tim Gleason assisted on the goal.

Smyth and Cammalleri each collected their third points of the game just 2:11 later, with Smyth registering his fourth goal of the season. Clarke earned his second point of the afternoon with an assist on the play.

Falcons rookie center Nick Tarnasky had the only third period goal, scored at 18:33 with assists from defenseman Darren Rumble and left wing Adam Henrich.
