MANCHESTER, NH – Center Michael Cammalleri had four points and goaltender Adam Hauser had 15 saves in relief as the Manchester Monarchs snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Providence Bruins, 4-2, before the 12th sellout crowd (9,916) of the year at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday night.

The Monarchs (38-16-3-3, 82 points) moved back into sole possession of first place in the American Hockey League’s Atlantic Division with the win, their 38th of the season. The Monarchs lead the second place Hartford Wolf Pack (38-19-2-2, 80 points) by two points in the standings and have one game in hand.

The win was also the Monarchs fifth in seven outings with the Bruins this year and fourth on home ice. The teams are scheduled to meet three more times this season.

The Bruins (30-23-3-6, 69 points) dropped to fifth place in the division with the loss. They trail the Worcester IceCats by one point in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot in the division.

The Bruins took an early 2-0 lead with first period goals from center Keith Aucoin and left wing Dan LaCouture.

Aucoin scored his 18th goal of the season moments after serving a major penalty for boarding. With just a few ticks remaining on the Monarchs man-advantage, Bruins right wing Pat Leahy pushed the puck out to center ice. The puck arrived just as Aucoin was freed from the penalty box. Aucoin next secured the puck and then raced up the ice on a breakaway before depositing the puck past goaltender Mathieu Garon (9 shots, 7 saves) and into the Monarchs net at 9:13.

LaCouture notched his 11th goal overall and fifth against the Monarchs 2:29 later when he jammed a behind-the-net pass from center Brad Boyes inside the right post. Defenseman Jayme Filipowicz also had an assist on the goal.

The Monarchs pulled back to within one with the league-leading 35th goal of the season for Cammalleri, who snapped the puck home from the bottom of the right circle at 16:46. Defenseman Jason Holland and left wing Noah Clarke shared assists as Cammalleri extended his scoring streak to nine games (6-8=14).

Hauser (15 shots, 15 saves) replaced Garon at the start of the second period, and he responded well to the assignment, stopping a shorthanded breakaway chance from Boyes three minutes into the period.

The Monarchs tied the game later in the period with Cammalleri’s second goal of the night, ripped home from the left circle at 12:54. Clarke and defenseman Mike Weaver assisted on Cammalleri’s 36th of the season, with Weaver keeping the play alive by knocking down a Providence clearing attempt at the blue line.

The Monarchs took the lead when a shot from defenseman Beau Geisler zipped over the shoulder of Bruins goaltender Chris Madden (23 shots, 19 saves) and found the back of the Providence net at 3:52 of the third period. Left wing Dustin Brown and Cammalleri collected assists on Geisler’s first-ever AHL goal.

Cammalleri also had a hand in the fourth Monarchs goal, scored on a slap shot by defenseman Joe Rullier at 8:32. Cammalleri stole the puck near the Providence blue line and then fed Rullier in the slot for the final goal of the game.

Cammalleri, with 84 points (36-48=84), is the first Monarchs player to score four points in a game this season.

Hauser earned the win, his 14th (14-8-0). Madden (3-2-0) took the loss, his second straight.

The teams combined to go 0-for-11 on the power play and the game included 137 minutes of penalties, including 92 penalty minutes in the third period alone.

The Monarchs return to action when they host the Springfield Falcons on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Wednesday’s game will be the second of four straight on home ice for the Monarchs, who are also scheduled to host the Philadelphia Phantoms on Friday night, before welcoming the Falcons back for a return engagement on Saturday night. Both weekend games are scheduled for 7:35 p.m. starts.

Ticket Availability: 300 seats in the Gold Level and 3,000 seats in the Silver level remain for Wednesday’s game against the Falcons.

Notes: The Monarchs wore vintage University of New Hampshire jerseys for the game. The jerseys, originally worn by the Wildcats from 1956-61, were auctioned off after the game. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey, an organization that honors men and women who have contributed greatly to the sport of ice hockey in the state. Sunday’s auction grossed over $26,000. The jersey worn by left wing and Nashua native Jeff Giuliano was the most popular, going for $2,100.

Prior to the game, seven new members were inducted into the organization. The New Hampshire Legends Of Hockey Class of 2005 included: Bernard Arguin, Hampton, NH; Dick Boucher, Manchester, NH; Alphonse Corriveau (deceased), Manchester, NH; Carl Langlais, Berlin, NH; Ken McKinnon, Alton, NH; Dick Roy, Berlin, NH; and Elmo Theriault (deceased), Berlin, NH.
