| PROVIDENCE, RI – Center Yanick Lehoux’s one-goal, two-assist effort stole some of the headlines from goaltender Adam Hauser, an emergency starter in net for the Manchester Monarchs on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence against the Bruins. Defenseman Bryan Muir chipped in with two goals, and both goals proved to be more than enough for Hauser, recalled by the Monarchs from the Reading Royals (ECHL) after goaltenders Milan Hnilicka and Mathieu Chouinard both suffered injuries over the weekend. The second-year netminder calmly made 27 saves as the Monarchs skated by the Providence Bruins, 3-0, before 5,264 fans. The win was Hauser’s first in the American Hockey League. The shutout was also the Monarchs second consecutive in Providence. Goaltender Travis Scott shutout the Bruins with 30 saves in a 3-0 win over the Bruins on March 23, 2003. The Monarchs improved their record to 3-5-0-1 with the victory over the Bruins, who dropped to 4-2-1-0 on the season. With their top two goaltenders out with injuries, the Monarchs played perhaps their best defensive period of the season, limiting the Bruins to just six shots on goal while taking a 1-0 lead. Lehoux’s behind the net pass to Muir resulted in the only goal of the period, registered at 7:08. Lehoux cleanly picked the puck off the end boards after left wing Noah Clarke’s bid from the left circle was tipped wide by goaltender Tim Thomas. Lehoux, a third round pick (86th overall) of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, snapped his pass to Muir, who jammed it past Thomas for his third goal of the season. Thomas finished the period with eight saves, with his best coming on a sliding right pad stop of wing Ryan Flinn’s goalmouth chance 15 minutes into the period. Flinn was set-up wonderfully by left wing Jeff Giuliano, who fought through a pair of Providence checks before triggering his pass to Flinn from the bottom of the right circle. Hauser benefited from the Monarchs commitment to defense in the opening frame. He finished with six saves, his toughest coming on left wing Darren VanOene’s blast from the left circle 18 minutes into the period. No goals were scored in the second period, thanks to the excellent play of Thomas. The former University of Vermont Catamount stopped all 17 of the shots he faced, including a point blank attempt from right wing Scott Barney two minutes in and a breakaway chance from Clarke six minutes later. Thomas also snared Muir’s between the circles shot nine minutes into the period. On the other end of the ice, center Chris Corazzini had the Bruins best scoring chance, but Hauser got a piece of his backhander through the crease late on a power play 10 minutes into the period. The Monarchs power play unit, under fire after connecting for only three goals on 38 chances (7.9 percent) entering Sunday’s action, clicked for the Monarchs second goal, credited to Muir at 9:03 of the third period. Lehoux’s centering pass to Muir again led to the goal, Muir’s fourth of the season. Right wing Pavel Rosa also registered an assist on the play. Lehoux nicely finished his productive game when he was credited with the game’s final goal, scored at 15:45. Clarke and Barney assisted on Lehoux’s first of the season. The Monarchs next home game is scheduled for Saturday, November 1 against the Lowell Lock Monsters at 7:35 p.m. Single seats in the Gold Level and 700 seats in the Silver Level remain for that game. Every fan attending the game on that day will receive an 8 x 10 photo of Monarchs defenseman Joe Rullier, courtesy of the New Hampshire Prevention and Control Program. NOTES: The Monarchs recalled goaltender Adam Hauser from the Reading Royals (ECHL) and signed goaltender Matt Underhill to a professional tryout agreement prior to Sunday’s game. The goaltending tandem replaced goaltenders Mathieu Chouinard and Milan Hnilicka on the Monarchs active roster. Chouinard and Hnilicka each suffered groin injuries over the weekend; Chouinard vs. Lowell on Friday, October 24; Hnilicka vs. Hartford on Saturday, October 25. Both are out indefinitely. Hauser, 23, joined the Monarchs after posting a 3-0-1 record in four appearances with the Royals this season. He backstopped the Royals to a 5-2 victory over Toledo on Saturday night with 15 saves. Underhill, 24, was 0-2-0 in two appearances with the Monarchs during a previous assignment that lasted from October 14 to October 20. He joined the Monarchs after winning his only start for the Florence Pride (ECHL), collecting 25 saves in a 3-2 win on Saturday in Florence, South Carolina…The Monarchs scratches in Sunday’s contest were center Steve Kelly (suspended) and left wing Chris Schmidt (fractured foot). Kelly, suspended by the AHL for physically abusing an official on October 18, served the fourth game of his four-game suspension on Sunday.
